Growth in Arab Region to Taper Off, Says Chief Economist on Launching ESCAP Study on Macroeconomic Policies for Development |
ESCWA Chief Economist and Director of the Economic Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) Abdallah Al Dardari, said today that modest growth prospects of the Asia-Pacific economies will impact Arab economies through inter-regional economic and social linkages, which became crucial for the Arab region’s development. He added that economic growth of the Arab region will taper off in 2013, as no strong demand growth for natural resources will be seen in the near future. |

On 19 July 2013, ESCWA Director of the Emerging and Conflict-Related Issues Division Tarik Alami presented to the UN Economic and Social Council the Note of the Secretary-General on the economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan, which is prepared by ESCWA on yearly basis. |

UNESCWA co-organized "The Fourth Middle East and North Africa Renewable Energy Conference- MENAREC4" in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Electricity, the United Nations Environment Programme - Regional Office for Western Asia, and with the support of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
