Beirut, 04 April 2012 (Communication and Information Unit) — The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today said that countries with a low Gross National Income (GNI) spend on the information and communication services more than the developed ones, and that the Arab region comes in the second rank in terms of the cost of these services. |

‘Political Tourism’ students visit ESCWA |
Beirut, 02 August 2019 (ESCWA)--Around 45 foreign students of Lebanese origin today paid a visit to ESCWA as part of a broader tour in Lebanon organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the framework of “Political Tourism”. The project aims to introduce the students to the political system in the country as well as the different United Nations entities operating in it and their respective mandates. |

The Bulletin presents data on population size and composition in ESCWA member countries; data on fertility and mortality; and statistics and indicators related to marriage and divorce. Following a recommendation made during the ninth session of ESCWA Statistical Committee, data in this bulletin were only taken from national sources, and were compiled mainly from a questionnaire prepared by ESCWA. |

Beirut, 6 April 2020--While COVID-19 is affecting people indiscriminately, women and girls are among the most vulnerable to the impact of the pandemic. A new policy brief by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and other United Nations entities (attached) emphasizes that existing domestic violence and social challenges faced by women and girls in the Arab region have worsened. |
