20 September 2019	Transitions to Renewable Energy and Sustainable Prosperity in Lebanon: The Role of Municipalities, Education and Future Scenarios for 2030	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab region (REGEND)” Project, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is partnering with the Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP), University College London, RELIEF Centre and Chatham House to organize a workshop on “Transitions to Renewable Energy and Sustainable Prosperity in Lebanon: The Role of Municipalities, Education and Future Scenarios for 2030”. The objective of this workshop is to discuss how alternatives and equitable energy supply systems can be built in Lebanon. The dialogue will be tackling issues such as the chronic lack of data about energy use and demand, the potential of government policies to enable equitable energy supply and the stakeholders’ engagement to effectively contribute to Lebanon’s long-term development goals.
11 December 2014	Syrian Experts Urge Geneva II Parties to Seize Historic Opportunity	Syrian experts met on 20-21 January 2014 within the framework of the “National Agenda for the Future of Syria” project launched by ESCWA in august 2012, and urged the Syrian people and all participants in the Geneva II process to seize this historic opportunity to stop the crisis in Syria and allow the recovery process of their country to begin for the benefit of all Syrians.
22 April 2020	ESCWA warns of a historic decline in foreign direct investment in the Arab region due to COVID-19	Beirut, 23 April 2020--The devastating effects of COVID-19 on economies worldwide are yet to unfold, but they will definitely not spare the Arab region which is set to witness its greatest decline in foreign direct investment (FDI) on record. A new policy brief issued today by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to shed light on the impact of the pandemic on Arab trade and investment estimates that the region is likely to lose 45% of FDI inflows in 2020.

11 December 2014	UN Deputy Secretary General to Open Regional Coordination Meeting	United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro will open the 13th Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) Meeting at 09:15 am on November 3 at the UN House-Beirut. In addition to Migiro, UN Under-Secretary-General and UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa will deliver an opening statement at the meeting.
21 December 2017	Egypt Hosts Workshop on Fostering Innovation in the Public Sectors of Arab Countries	Beirut-Cairo, 4 December 2017 (Communication and Information Unit) – ESCWA has recently organized a workshop on “Fostering Innovation in the Public Sectors of Arab Countries” in Cairo under the patronage of Hala Helmy El Said, Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform.
11 December 2014	ESCWA Report Highlights Disparities in Information and Communication Technology	ESCWA shed light in a report it launched Tuesday on the state of the Information Society in the Arab region, emphasizing the great disparities that exist among countries in the region in this sector. Entitled “Regional Profile of the Information Society in Western Asia – 2009”, the report disclosed an increase in literacy in this region, while also noting that half of all Arab women still suffer from illiteracy.
3 August 2017	Sustainable Development Goal Simulation	In March 2017, ESCWA issued a report on a “Prototype model for Sustainable Development Goal simulation”. The paper analyzes efforts to create a quantitative model that can arbitrate and balance between opposing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to reach the best combination of targets.
25 July 2017	Prioritize Stabilization Initiatives in Syria	As part of its mandate to promote human development and democratic transition in the region, UN ESCWA launched the National Agenda for the Future of Syria (NAFS) Programme in 2012 to engage Syrian experts and stakeholders in developing policy alternatives for Syria in preparation for a post-agreement phase.
7 September 2018	First Coordination Meeting for the Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab Region	The objective of the First Coordination Meeting is to bring together key implementing partners of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab Region” to discuss and coordinate the partnership and implementation process of this project.
