Beirut, 26 April 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)-- The 27th Ministerial Session of ESCWA will be held on 9-10 May 2012 at the United Nations House in Beirut under the auspices of the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Najib Mikati, as the region witnesses drastic political, economic and social changes. In January, ESCWA held a high-level meeting entitled “Reform and Transition to Democracy”, which was opened by Prime Minister Mikati and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. |

Financing the Upscaling of Building Energy Efficiency Programs for Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development in the Arab Region |
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) are joining their efforts to advise Arab countries on available instruments for financing sustainable energy transitions, identify suitable ways to make greater use of international financing means available for the building sectors, and build the capacity of member States to secure funding for upscaling energy efficiency for Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development. |

ESCWA Convened the Fourteenth Session of its Committee on Transport |
The Jordanian Capital, Amman, hosted the 14th Session of its Committee on Transport on 9 and 10 October 2013. Minister of Transport in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Lina Chbib inaugurated the meeting, which was attended by specialists in diverse transport and legislation-related areas from ESCWA member countries, alongside representatives of several relevant regional and international bodies. |

UNESCWA to Host the Eleventh Meeting of the UN Regional Coordination Group |
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) will be hosting the Eleventh Meeting of the United Nations Regional Coordination Group on 19-20 June 2006 at the United Nations House, Riadh El Solh Square, Beirut. The Meeting, which will be opened by UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy at 5:00 pm on Monday, is intended to coordinate the work of UN Agencies in the region in order to avoid duplication and repetition of their activities. |

Role of the Private Sector in the Use of Innovation & Technology to Support Smallholders Face COVID-19 Disruptive Impact |
As the world is still struggling to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and its disruptive impact on agricultural value chain, the private sector and farmers in the Arab region are facing burdens on how to continue delivering along the agricultural value chain and ensure the continuity of supplies to consumers, for sustaining their livelihoods, from farm to fork. The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) leads on this Zoominar session to highlight the role of the private sector in the use of innovation and technology and the potential role of the public-private partnership and regional cooperation in reaching out to smallholders and building their resilience to crises, disasters and COVID-19 pandemic. The session is being held within the context of the International Forum on “International Forum on Innovation in Agri-Food Systems to achieve SDGs”, that was planned to take place in Saudi Arabia in March 2020 in preparations for the G20 meeting in KSA. |
