8th Session of ESCWA Committee on Women |
A crowd of Arab ministers and experts have agreed on the importance of ESCWA continuing to support National Women’s Machineries in order to estimate the economic cost of violence against women in the Arab region and to implement the Action Plan for Gender Equality in line with the specificities of States. They also stressed the need to continue to support the capacity building of the Arab States to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). |

The NENA LWD is organized by FAO-RNE and will focus on reviewing the progress made in addressing water scarcity in the region, fostering exchange of knowledge and experience among countries and partners and charting the way forward taking into account the lessons learned, the new challenges to and opportunities for sustainable development. The LWDs will consist of two segments: The technical and high level expert meeting from 31 March-3 April and the Ministerial Meeting on 4 April led by the League of Arab States. |

UN-ESCWA Launches 2007 Report on Globalization |
UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa said Thursday that Arab states have achieved uneven results in 2006 in globalization. “Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Arab states has reached a record score of USD$62 billion and an average growth of 36 percent. This growth reflects the efforts exerted by most Arab states to lure FDI,” AlDafa said during a press conference held at the UN-House on the occasion of launching the “Annual Review of Developments in Globalization and Regional Integration in Arab countries 2007”. |

Regional Commission and Hariri Foundation Hold Conference on Water, Food and Energy Nexus |
On 25 October 2013, ESCWA and the Rafik Hariri Foundation joined hands in organizing "Water, Food and Energy Nexus Conference" at the United Nations House in Beirut. Speakers in the conference were Roula Majdalani, Director of the ESCWA Sustainable Development and Productivity Division (SDPD); Salwa Siniora Baassiri, Director-General of the Rafik Hariri Foundation; Nadim Khoury, Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA. The event’s keynote speaker was Dominic Waughray, Senior Director and Head of Environment and Sustainable Initiatives of the World Economic Forum. |
