27 April 2018	Workshop on Goal 5 builds capacity in Arab region to achieve women’s empowerment and gender equality	Beirut, 19 April 2018 (Communication and Information Unit) – A two-day regional workshop was recently organized to build the capacities of members of the UN-ESCWA Sub-Committee on the implementation of SDG 5, and to provide them with best practices on the preparation of Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) which are presented annually at the United Nations High Level Political Forum in New York.
11 December 2014	On The International Day of Solidarity with The Palestinian People	United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, said that this year’s observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People “comes at a time when Palestinians continue to suffer the indignities and violence of occupation and conflict, but also at a time when a new beginning has been made in efforts to achieve a two State solution to the conflict.” Ban’s words came in the message he addressed on the International Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed on 29 November of each year, in the wake of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 32/40 B.

11 December 2014	Regional Commission Discusses Key Role of Information and Communication Technologies	Beirut, Tuesday 03 April 2012 (Communication and Information Unit)-- ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Nadim Khouri today said Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) played a key role during the Arab spring whether through the communication tools or the online social media. Khouri was addressing the opening session of the sixth meeting of ESCWA Consultative Committee on Scientific and Technological Development and Technological Innovation (ESTIC), held at the UN House, Beirut.
4 December 2017	Disability in the Arab World: From Charity to Agency	What is Disability? Persons with disabilities include those with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments. These impairments are sometimes visible to others, and other times hidden. Environmental barriers prevent persons with disabilities from performing day-to-day activities and fully participating in society. Accordingly, policy interventions should focus on resolving these barriers to facilitate the participation and integration of persons with disabilities in society.

The workshop was attended by participants from the group of member countries undertaking this project at its first stage.
11 December 2014	Deputy Executive Secretary Sheds Light on the work of ESCWA in Trade and Transport	ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Nadim Khouri pointed out that the Commission has given a considerable attention to the trade and transport facilitation subject since 2001. It launched the Integrated Transport System in the Arab Mashreq (ITSAM), which aims at supporting regional integration in the region and enhance intra-Arab regional trade.
