Egypt 4th national training workshop to improve use of gender statistics |
The national training workshop aims to improve technical capabilities in using gender statistics to monitor SDG gender indicators and in disseminating, communicating and using statistics and indicators. The workshop will cover topics such as: integrating a gender perspective into official statistics; presenting, disseminating and communicating gender statistics; and improving gender statistics literacy among data users. |

Labour Market Data: Structures and Challenges in the ESCWA Region |
This paper provides part of the research feeding into the fourth Integrated Social Policy Report, published in December 2011 by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The availability of labour market data and the principal challenges facing labour markets in the ESCWA member countries are the main focus of the paper. The labour force in the ESCWA member countries is changing rapidly, due to the combined pressures of an increasing number of individuals of working age, higher levels of female labour participation and changing patterns of migration.

National Institutional Structures for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Exploring the Implementation of Article 33 in the Arab Region |
This study is divided into four sections. The first reviews the three main provisions of Article 33 by outlining the structure, composition and functions of the main institutional frameworks for implementing and monitoring the Convention. Where possible, examples from other countries around the globe are provided to illustrate the implementation of Article 33 in practice. The second section reviews the current state of implementation of Article 33 in the Arab region. The authors use information collected from a questionnaire sent to member States of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)to illustrate key regional trends regarding Arab countries’ institutional setups in relation to Article 33. Finally, the paper outlines potential opportunities and challenges for Arab States in implementing Article 33 and concludes with some recommendations for further improving government compliance with the Convention. |

Gender and Women Issues |
The advancement of women’s rights is a matter of urgency in the Arab region and essential for meaningful development. Although significant progress towards women’s empowerment has been made in most Arab countries, women in the region continue to face great challenges and uncertainty, particularly in situations of conflict, economic difficulties and political instability. Gender-based discrimination remains widespread and their access to resources, opportunities and decision-making continues to be limited. |

This report focuses on the analysis of the most recent socio-economic developments to meet two objectives. The first one aims at demonstrating the analytical observation of routinely monitored economic and social variables of the Arab region. The second area of focus aims at an in-depth analysis on the reforms of the energy subsidy system and its macroeconomic implication, with particularly focus on two countries: Tunisia (oil importer) and Saudi Arabia (oil exporter). |
