UN Assistant Secretary-General Visits Beirut

Ms. Mervat Tallawy, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of UNESCWA, today met with Ms. Jan Beagle, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Human Resources Management. Ms. Beagle is on an official visit to Lebanon (5-8 June 2006).

During her visit, Ms. Beagle will be meeting with United Nations Chiefs of Mission in Lebanon. She will also meet with UN staff and staff representatives in order to discuss the reform process launched by Secretary-General Kofi Annan in his report entitled “In Larger Freedom: Towards Security, Development and Human Rights for All.” The Secretary-General’s reform proposals are further elaborated in his report entitled, “Investing in the United Nations: For a Stronger Organization Worldwide”. Ms. Beagle will discuss the human resources management aspects of these reforms.

Ms. Beagle is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.
