The Arab Climate Change Assessment Report (ACCAR) was produced in the framework of The Regional Initiative for the Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources and Socio-Economic Vulnerability in the Arab Region (RICCAR).

Beirut, 21 June 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)--The implications of frontier technologies for employment and youth empowerment in the Arab region are being highlighted at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) during a two-day expert meeting in Beirut, Lebanon that opened on Thursday.
 

Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” project, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Distillation and valorization of materials extracted from medicinal and aromatic plants”.
 
This workshop aims to build the knowledge, scientific and technical capacities of rural women in the region of Chorbane, (Governorate of Mahdia) Republic of Tunisia – in particular, those belonging to "Al-Amal" Agricultural Development Group for Rural Women – on the valorization of aromatic and medicinal plants in the region and their exploitation within income-generating activities’ context through the extraction of essential oils and manufacture of cosmetics, as well as providing them with the necessary practical skills, encouraging them to invest and develop entrepreneurship, motivate them to organize within base-structures under the social and solidarity economy’ framework, and also to build their capacities on manufacturing and packaging the various products extracted from aromatic and medicinal plants to better promote them within the region, regionally and nationally, through a simplified scientific and distinctive approach integrating lectures, exercises, and practical training.

Under the auspices of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) "The Arab High-level Forum on World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" from 8 to 12 May 2017 at the UN House, Riyad El-Solh square, Beirut.
