5 December 2014	Committee on Social Development, 9th Session	The Committee on Social Development was established pursuant to the Seventeenth Commission session resolution 198 (XVII) of 31 May 1994, with the aim of promoting regional cooperation through the effective participation of relevant parties in member countries in planning and implementing the ESCWA programme of work in the field of social development.

5 December 2014	Committee on Transport, 14th session	The fourteenth session of the Committee on Transport of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) was held in Amman, on 9 and 10 October 2013. It discussed items on the session agenda, namely the progress in implementing the recommendations of its previous session; the harmonization of institutional frameworks and legislation in the transport sector in the region; and methods to monitor the implementation of the Agreement on International Roads in the Arab Mashreq.
5 December 2014	Sub Regional Consultation on Labour Intensive Work Programmes as a Tool for Extending Social Protection	In the framework of its current focus on extending social protection in Arab countries, the Social Policy Section in ESCWA's Social Development Division, in cooperation with the ILO, is organizing a workshop on labour intensive work programmes for practitioners across the region. The workshop will be held at the Ministère de l’Investissement et de la Coopération Internationale in Tunisia from 25 to 26 September 2013.
