4 October 2019	Sustainable Energy and Gender Empowerment, within the framework of the "Tenth International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development"	Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in rural areas of the Arab region (REGEND)” Project, the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) with its national, regional and international partners is organizing a workshop on “Sustainable Energy and Gender Empowerment” to be held the 8th October 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop is part of the 10th International Forum on Energy for Sustainable Development (IFESD) organized by the five United Nations Regional Commissions and the Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Thailand on 7-8 October 2019 The objective of this workshop is to highlight the importance of enhancing gender equality and diversifying the involvement of women across the sustainable energy value chain based on a human right based approach.
5 December 2014	Assessment of Trade Policy Trends in the ESCWA Region	With the aim to increase awareness on the latest developments concerning assessment of trade policy trends in member countries, ESCWA is organizing an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on "Trade Policy Trends in ESCWA Member Countries and Their Respective Implications on Trade and Economic Performance". The Meeting will be held in Beirut, Lebanon, during the period 17-18 December 2008.

They provide shelter, food and medicine to people and are a major habitat for biodiversity. They provide clean water and play a vital role in maintaining a stable climate and preserving the environment, to name a few. In order to highlight the important role of forests, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests.
11 December 2014	UN Launches UNCTAD's Information Economy Report in Beirut	ESCWA held a press conference today in cooperation with the UN Information Center in Beirut (UNIC-Beirut), at the UN House to launch the "Information Economy Report 2009" released by the UN Conference on trade and Development (UNCTAD). Speakers at the conference were Bahaa Elkoussy, UNIC-Beirut Director, Youssef Nusseir, Director Information and Communication Technology Division at ESCWA and Rami Zaatari, Information and Communication Technology Officer, ESCWA.

11 December 2014	Executive Secretary Praises Role of Islamic Financial Institutions in Promoting Regional Economic Welfare	Beirut, 5 September 2007 (UN Information Services)-- UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Al-Dafa today said, “the distinguished role Islamic Financial institutions play to improve the economic welfare of our society makes them unique among other operating financial institutions.” Al-Dafa was speaking at the opening session of “The Regional Forum on the Role of Islamic Financial Institutions in Financing for Development” organized by UN-ESCWA in cooperation with the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) on 5-6 September 2007 at the Manama Ritz Carlton Hotel.
