The growing demand for energy in Jordan, coupled with the heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels, is an increasing economic challenge. This situation has been aggravated by the influx of high numbers of refugees in recent years, which has led to a sharp increase in demand for electricity. This has increased the complexity of sustainable energy management in the country. |

Report on the Electronic Fora as part of the Portal “Towards an Inclusive Participatory Development in the ESCWA region” |
The ESCWA launched a portal called “Towards an inclusive Participatory Development in the ESCWA region”, to promote the participation of civil society and the exchange of ideas and experiences and to trigger interactive discussions. Three electronic fora were part of this portal as they aimed at promoting a dynamic civil society and tackled the following issues: “Participation in Public Policy processes”, “Media and Development” and “Social Integration: towards achieving inclusive participation in Western Asia”. |

The impacts of the introduction of value added tax in Gulf Cooperation Council countries |
The idea of creating a value added tax in GCC countries is a recurrent idea that re-emerged with insistence recently. Indeed, the budgetary difficulties that GCC countries are facing in the aftermath of the 2014’s oil price chock convinced them to reform of their existing tax systems. In this regard, this study attempts to assess the economic and fiscal implication of the implementation of a 5 percent value added tax in six GCC countries. |

Within the framework of the RICCAR, ESCWA and ACSAD organized the RICCAR/ACCWaM Vulnerability Assessment Task Force on Adaptive Capacity Indicators Meeting from 22-23 October 2014 in Beirut at the UN House. This Task Force is basically a small ad hoc working group that was established to technically review, with regional experts, the adaptive capacity indicators associated with socio-economic aspects of that component and the related maps that will support the preparation of the vulnerability assessment at the Arab regional level. |
