This guide reviews gender mainstreaming in institutional plans, policies and programmes, and highlights key steps taken with a view to integrating gender-related issues into programmes and activities of formal institutions. The guide underlines the fact that national machineries for women must be involved in the gender mainstreaming process, since those machineries play a key role at the national level in monitoring, implementing, evaluating and following up on all issues that impact women. |

Brainstorming session on rehabilitating the Iraqi construction sector |
With the participation of 18 contributors from Lebanon, Iraq and the region, the objective of the session was to formulate a strategy to enhance the active involvement of the domestic construction industry of Iraq in the reconstruction and maintenance of Iraq''s physical make-up. Based on the deliberations, a project proposal for UNDG was prepared by UNESCWA that combined both theoretical views with realistic aspects presented by the Iraqi participating experts. |

Transnational Corporations in ESCWA Member Countries with the United Arab Emirates and Egypt as Case Studies |
In addition to enhancing the flow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into a country, transnational corporations (TNCs) play a significant role in the transfer of technology from developed to developing countries. This study analyses the activities of TNCs in ESCWA member countries with reference to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt as case studies. A study of these two countries, which are host to the highest number of TNCs among ESCWA member States, can assist other ESCWA member countries in adopting sound measures aimed at attracting TNCs and, consequently, FDI. |

International Migration Statistics: Meeting the International Recommendations - ESCWA Training Kit |
The kit aims to provide the information necessary to develop and improve statistical systems for migration statistics with regard to the quality, coverage, collection and use of migration data. Where possible, it identifies some of the common pitfalls to avoid in this field and provides, in the annex, model tables developed by the United Nations for the collection of comparable migration data. It also aims to encourage the use of hitherto under-exploited administrative sources of migration data, in addition to censuses and surveys.
