11 December 2014	Abu Dhabi to Host UNESCWA Meeting on the Development of Arab Capital Markets	UNESCWA is organizing its second annual Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on Financing for Development entitled “The Role of Capital Markets in the Economic Development of the ESCWA Member Countries” from 19 to 20 September 2006 at “Le Royal Meridien” hotel in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This meeting comes within the framework of UNESCWA efforts to assist member countries in the implementation of the recommendations of the International Conference on Financing for Development (Monterrey, March 2002).
11 August 2015	Workshop of the Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region	ESCWA is organizing on 8-12 June 2015 the Regional Training-of-Trainers (TOT) workshop within the implementation of the Academy of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region (AIGLE) at the UN House in Beirut. Participants in the workshop will include high-level experts who have either prepared or reviewed the AIGLE four training modules, in addition to experts nominated by the participating institutions as well as the focal points from the participating Arab countries.

26 June 2020	Beijing +15	The fifteenth anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was marked in a commemorative meeting during the fifty-fourth session of the Committee on Women which took place in New York from 1 to 12 March 2010 and brought together government officials and representatives of civil society, the media and the private sector to assess what was achieved since the Beijing Conference in 1995, share experiences and good practices and discuss priority actions to deal with persistent obstacles and new challenges.

9 February 2017	AIGF2020 Initiative: 2016-2017	In Dec 2015, the Fourth Arab IGF concluded the first mandate of the Arab IGF process (2012-2015) and resulted in the launching by ESCWA and LAS of the AIGF2020 initiative that aims to analyse and develop the Arab IGF process in its second mandate that could extend until 2020 or 2025.

Remittances[1] received by developing countries accounted for about one third of export earnings, more than twice private capital flows, almost 10 times official capital flows and more than 12 times official transfers in the recent 10 years.

11 December 2014	National Conference on Social Policy in Egypt Kicks off	The National Conference on Integrated Social Policy in Egypt opened today at the Pyramisa Hotel in Cairo under the auspices of the Egyptian First Lady, Ms. Suzan Mubarak. Speaking at the opening session were Mr. James Rawley, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ms. Mervat Tallawy, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN-ESCWA) and Mr. Ali Al-Meselhi, Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity.
