11 December 2014	Negotiations on Climate Change	ESCWA convened a three-day Regional Training Workshop on Capacity Development for Climate Change Negotiations for the Arab Countries in collaboration with the League of Arab States (LAS) between 26 and 28 May 2014 in Amman. The workshop was the second in a series of workshops on building the capacity of Arab countries on climate change negotiations.

12 November 2014	Natural Resources	The ESCWA region is facing critical natural resource problems. Climate change, population growth, food insecurity, water scarcity, extreme weather events and regional tensions over shared water resources are challenges that make effective management of natural resources to promote sustainable development imperative. Member countries have shown a growing interest in assessing the impact of climate change, including extreme weather events, and socioeconomic vulnerability.
9 July 2018	Executive Secretary represents UN Secretary-General at Turkish President’s inauguration	Beirut, 9 July (Communication and Information Unit)--The Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Mr. Mohamed Ali Alhakim, today represented the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres, in Ankara, Turkey, during the inauguration ceremony of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace. The Turkish presidential election recently took place on 24 June as part of the 2018 general election, alongside parliamentary elections on the same day.
27 May 2019	5th UN Global Road Safety Week: Leadership for Safer Mobility in Cities	Within the framework of the 5h UN Global Road Safety week 2019, a workshop was organized by ESCWA and YASA on traffic safety in the cities. The workshop was attended by Minister of Public Works and Transport, Mr. Youssef Fenianos as well as the Director General of Oil, Ms Aurore Feghali.

17 July 2017	ESCWA Executive Secretary Takes Oath of Office before UN Secretary-General	ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim took his oath of office before United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday 12 July 2017 at the UN Headquarters, New York, after he assumed his duties at the peak of ESCWA last May. Alhakim promised not to seek or accept any instructions regarding the performance of his duties as Executive Secretary from any government or other source external to the UN. He said:
