Regional Commission Honors Arab Women Voices |
On the occasion of International Women's Day, ESCWA honored Arab women voices: singer and poet Jaheda Wehbe, Palestinian-American poet and scholar Lisa Suhair Majaj and Palestinian-Lebanese filmmaker Carole Mansour. Held in cooperation with the Resource Center for Gender Equality (ABAAD) and under the title "Voices of Arab Women," on 5 March 2015 at the UN House, Beirut, the ceremony saw the participation of Second Vice Chair of the National Commission for Lebanese Women Lama Tammam Salam, and Lebanese Minister of Displaced Persons Alice Chabtini. |

Iraqi Human Rights Minister Visits UNESCWA, Meets Tallawy |
Iraqi Minister for Human Rights Wijdan Mikhail said today, “UNESCWA provides major support for her Ministry and the activities it intends to undertake.” She was speaking following her visit this afternoon to the UNESCWA headquarters in Riad el Solh Square, where she met with Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Antoine Mansour, head of UNESCWA’s Unit for Conflict Related Issues (ECRI). |

Training Workshops on Energy Statistics: Joint Organisations Data Initiative (JODI) and Energy Balances (IEF ESCWA UNSD IEA) |
IEF, ESCWA, UNSD, and IEA co-organize the “JODI training” to enhance monthly hydrocarbon data collection and improve energy data quality and transparency and “The Energy Balance Training” on data compilation for fuels and flows to build national energy balance for evidenced energy policies. JODI and Energy Balances workshop aims to train on monthly energy data collection and on international methodologies to build energy balance. |
