ESCWA takes part in Beirut Energy Forum and Discusses the Role of Renewable Energy |
ESCWA is organizing a session titled “The Role of Renewable Energy in Socio – Economic Development in the Arab Region” on 17 Sept. 2014, from 15:30 to 17:30, at Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh within the activities of the 5th Beirut Energy Forum. The session will be moderated by Moncef Ben Abdallah, Senior Energy Expert, former Tunisian Industry and Energy Minister. The session will focus on the impact of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) deployment and the role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in this respect. |

Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the ESCWA Region, 2006-2007 |
This issue of the Survey focuses on the robust economic expansion experienced by most ESCWA member countries during the period 2006-2007, with the exception of Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine, where regional conflicts and political instabilities significantly reduced economic potential. This edition focuses on the lessons that can be drawn from previous oil booms, highlighting policies designed to harness financial and human resources in order to meet development requirements and achieve the Millennium Development Goals. |

From Words to Action |
During the Week of International Women Day (8-15 March), ESCWA elevators were dressed in Arabic calligraphy, the language of the region where the Commission is working alongside governments to implement women’s rights. From words to achievement, "من مربوطة إلى مبسوطة", was an internal visual campaign inside the UN House, Beirut, that showed the difference empowerment can make through a simple, to-the-point, Arabic illustration. |

Further Support to the National Agenda for the Future of Syria Programme |
On 28 January 2016, the Centre for Syrian Studies at the University of Saint Andrews, the United Kingdom, and ESCWA joined hands to sign a letter of understanding (LOU) on the bilateral cooperation concerning the National Agenda for the Future of Syria (NAFS) programme launched by ESCWA in 2012. |
