AIGF2020 Initiative: 2016-2017 |
In Dec 2015, the Fourth Arab IGF concluded the first mandate of the Arab IGF process (2012-2015) and resulted in the launching by ESCWA and LAS of the AIGF2020 initiative that aims to analyse and develop the Arab IGF process in its second mandate that could extend until 2020 or 2025. |

Executive Secretary Says Arab Integration Can no Longer Remain a Purely Intellectual Luxury |
UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rima Khalaf today said that full Arab integration, which takes into account its economic, social and cultural dimensions, can no longer remain a purely intellectual luxury. Rather, it is a strategic choice and a fundamental prerequisite of an Arab renaissance, which can provide security and welfare for people, and prosperity and invincibility for countries. |

UNESCWA-GTZ Meeting on Regional Water Utilities Opens |
UNESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy said that by 2015, it is projected that 82 million people in the Arab world will lack access to safe water and 124 million people will not be able to get basic water treatment utilities if urgent measures are not taken to improve the present situation. Tallawy was speaking at the opening of a technical cooperation meeting held by UNESCWA and German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) at the Conrad Hotel, Cairo, from 4 to 6 September 2006 under the aegis of Egyptian Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Development Ahmed Al Maghraby. |

ESCWA holds a Regional Workshop on Women for Arab Parliaments |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) opened today a regional workshop for Arab parliaments on implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and ending violence against them. This workshop is held at the UN-House Beirut, and organized by ESCWA in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Lebanese Parliament and the United Nations Development Programme-Parliamentary Development Initiative in the Arab Region (UNDP-PDIAR). |

ESCWA Launches Annual Survey of Economic and Social Developments in its Region |
Beirut, 31 January 2012 (United Nations Information Centre) – A United Nations ESCWA annual survey on the Economic and Social Developments for 2010-2011 was released today, reflecting the dramatic changes the region has witnessed while moving from the first to the second decade of the 21st century. The survey made observations, provided data to understand and explain the dynamics of regional, sub-regional and country-specific social and economic trends. Its objective is to provide a snapshot of the current socioeconomic situation and an outlook for 2012. |

Kuwait Hosts Ninth Session of ESCWA Committee on Energy |
The ninth session of the ESCWA Committee on Energy will begin on 12 June 2013 at 10:00AM in the Regency Hotel of Kuwait City with the participation of representatives from member countries specialized in the field of Energy. The election of the session’s officers will follow in accordance with the Arabic alphabetical order employed by the United Nations, whereby Libya will assume the chairmanship of the Session, Lebanon and Egypt the vice-chairmanship and Morocco the role of rapporteur. |
