Workshop on Legal Informatics - An Arabic Perspective |
The workshop emphasizes the essential role of legal informatics in enhancing access and dissemination of legal information, in particular the information within the possession of governments and necessary for informing the public as to their rights and obligations, or that would assist them in doing so. The objective of the workshop is to create an ICT enabling environment to facilitate the administration of justice and harmonization among different judicial and legislative codes at the national level, as well as at the regional and international levels. |

ESCWA, IRU Sign Agreement on Transport Facilitation |
Umberto de Pretto, Secretary General Of the International Road Union (IRU) today said that trade figures within the Arab region are quite shocking, since for example only 9% of trade is between the Arab world. De Pretto was speaking at the UN House in Beirut before signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ESCWA on cooperation and coordination of efforts on transport-related issues in the Arab region. |

Official Inauguration for the Renewable Energy Center in relation to DA Project: "Capacity-building on Climate Change Mitigation |
The Energy Section at SDPD has been implementing a DA project on "Capacity Building on Climate Change Mitigation for Poverty Alleviate in Western Asia", since March 2011. This project aims at encouraging the use of Renewable Energy (RE) applications in poor rural areas in some ESCWA member countries (where most people mainly rely upon traditional biomass to meet their energy needs) through raising awareness and building the capacity of concerned stakeholders to benefit from RE technologies for the economic and social development of these areas. |
