Study Tour on Participation and Local Governance |
The purpose of the exchange and networking visit is t expose senior representatives and decision makers from several ministries and governorates' councils in Iraq to participatory methods applied in a typical Italian Region and another Autonomous Region, in particular to "successful models" in regional/local development planning, budget and fiscal planning, monitoring the implementation of the respective development plans and monitoring the quality of delivery services to the general public. Step by Step towards Costing Violence Against Women in the Arab Region |
ESCWA Centre for Women and the United Nations Population Fund Arab States Regional Office (ASRO) organized an expert group meeting titled “Step by Step towards Costing Violence Against Women in the Arab Region” on 20-21 September 2018 at the United Nations House in Beirut, Lebanon.
This meeting followed rigorous work organized previously by UNFPA in Egypt and more recently by ESCWA at the regional and national levels to support countries’ efforts in estimating the cost of violence against women. |

From 31 January to 5 February 2016 Istanbul hosted the workshop on “Good Governance and the Sustainable Development Goals.” Organized by ESCWA in collaboration the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq, the workshop aimed at building the capacity of Iraqi public sectors institutions through helping officials to adapt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda to national context; incorporate participatory governance practices; and adopt an effective communication strategy that can promote public trust and the citizens’ engagement in the SDGs agenda. |
