Enhancing cooperation on transboundary water resources in the Arab region |
Beirut, 6 March 2020--Water resources in the Arab region are characterized by scarcity and disparate geographic distribution. The demand for water and the competition over water access are ever-increasing, due to many factors including rapid population growth. So is the need for increased cooperation on the management of transboundary water resources. Against this backdrop, ESCWA and partners held two workshops on the subject, in Beirut, from 3 to 5 March. |

ESCWA condemns Israeli actions in Gaza |
Beirut, 17 May 2018 (Communication and Information Unit)--The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) condemns the killing of 61 Palestinians, including 6 children, by Israeli forces on 14 May 2018 during a demonstration at the border fence in Gaza. The apparent disproportionate use of force, namely the use of live ammunition against unarmed demonstrators, constitutes another violation of international humanitarian law and a disregard for human life and dignity on the part of the Israeli military. |

This report presents the findings of a detailed review and analysis of gender issues associated with energy services in Jordan. It calls attention to the challenges and barriers rural women face in employment and entrepreneurship in energy sectors. It also highlights the potential for gender mainstreaming and identifies opportunities to support the local private sector, and to promote and expand the use of small-scale renewable energy technologies, while emphasizing the environmental and climate benefits associated with them. |
