This report presents an exhaustive analytical survey of the history of women’s movements in the Arab region. It consists of two main sections, the first of which reviews the rise and development of women's movements in the twentieth century and the challenges they have faced at each stage of their history. The second section analyses the current situation and future prospects of the new women’s movement, which represents a new chapter in the evolution of the women’s movement, basing its vision and practice on new theoretical and intellectual foundations. Annexed to the report are two regional studies, covering the Arab Maghreb and the Gulf countries, and eight country studies covering Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Palestine, the Sudan and Yemen.
