ESCWA has since 2011 been coordinating with ESCAP and the other UN-Regional Commissions in the implementation of an ESCAP lead project on “Enhancing energy security and improving access to energy services through development of public-private renewable energy partnerships”. Within this project’s context, a national team was established in Jordan, and was charged with collecting data on and identifying Renewable Energy (RE) PPPs case studies in poor and/or rural areas of Jordan. |

Enhancing integrated national development planning in Tunisia |
Beirut-Tunis, 30 October 2019 (ESCWA)--As part of efforts to improve planning processes towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 in the Arab region, ESCWA concluded today a two-day workshop on “Enhancing integrated national development planning in Tunisia”. The workshop was aimed at building the capacity of Tunisian planning stakeholders in the different techniques and methodologies of integrated planning. |

ESCWA holds regional workshop on Arabic Domain Names and Internet Governance |
ESCWA is organizing a regional workshop on Arabic Domain Names and Internet Governance on 14 November 2009 at the Savoy Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The meeting tackles important topics related to the Arabic domain names in general and the “.arab” top-level domain, which will be established in 2010, in addition to issues associated with critical Internet resources and cyber security. |

Technical Committee, 2nd Meeting |
The Technical Committee was established pursuant to the decision of the Commission at its twenty-fourth session and with the aim of enhancing interaction and close consultation between the members of the Commission and its secretariat on substantive development issues. The sessions of the Technical Committee are held every six months, starting January 2008, and its membership comprises high-level senior officials designated by the member governments of the Commission. |

Annual Review of Development in Globalization and Regional Integration in the Arab Countries, 2009 |
The economies of most Arab countries were less affected by the global financial crisis compared to other economies. Several factors contributed to the alleviation of the impact of the crisis on Arab countries, including the minimal dependency of non-oil producing economies, especially financial markets, on the global economy; and the flexibility acquired by major oil-producing countries from their cash reserves. This issue of the Annual Review examines the impact of the global financial crisis on the Arab economies. |

Regional Seminar on the Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) convened in Amman on 20 and 21 November 2007 a Regional Seminar on the Review and Appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA). The main objective of the seminar was to review the progress made in implementing the 2002 MIPAA, to share experiences and successful approaches and to assist member countries and relevant regional partners in their programmes for the older people. A further objective was to review action taken in the Arab Plan of Action on Ageing to the Year 2012. |

Increasing the Competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises through the Use of Environmentally Sound Technologies: Assessing the Potential for the Development of Second-generation Biofuels in the ESCWA Region |
While international debate continues regarding the development of primary biofuels, second-generation biofuels derived from agricultural waste have emerged as an environmentally sound alternative for policymakers and entrepreneurs interested in biofuel development, including in the ESCWA region. Advocates indicate that developments in this sector can also help to address the environmental problems of the region, as well as to create new employment and income opportunities through the introduction of environmentally sound technologies. |
