11 December 2014	UN-ESCWA Seventh Statistical Committee Session Convenes	The Seventh Session of the UN-ESCWA Statistical Committee convened today at the UN House, Beirut, under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of State for Administrative Reform Jean Hogassapian. Opening statements were delivered by the Vice-Chairman of the Sixth Statistics Committee, Mr. Abdallah Al Othayyem; Mr. Ahmed Hussein, Head of the Statistics Coordination Unit on behalf of UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy; and Minister Hogassapian.
2 December 2016	Palestinian Efforts and Achievements in the Climate Change Combat	“The international community should not only support Palestine in meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) commitments, but must also commit to supporting the Palestinian people in their struggle for their inalienable rights. The Palestinians, deserve, like everyone else, to live in dignity and peace. They deserve to be free in their own state. And it is our moral duty to help them achieve that noble goal. For as Martin Luther King said 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'.”
23 August 2017	Consultative Meeting on the Implementation Framework for the Environmental Dimension of the 2030 Agenda in the Arab Region	Cooperation between ESCWA, UN Environment, and the League of Arab States has led to the development of a draft “Implementation Framework for the Environmental Dimension of the 2030 Agenda”. The draft framework proposes means of integrating the environmental dimensions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into national development plans and policies in the Arab region.
29 August 2017	Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region (AIGLE)	The “Academy of ICT Essentials for Government Leaders in the ESCWA Region” (AIGLE) project aims at helping policymakers in Arab countries to build capacities, in order to narrow ICT human resources gaps, reduce barriers to ICT adoption and promote the application of ICT in accelerating socioeconomic development.
9 March 2020	Taskforce Meeting: “Final results of the mapping of the energy situation of the building sector in Jordan & periodic survey methodology on energy consumption patterns in the sector” {Postponed}	The objective of this meeting is to present to the national project task force the final results of the comprehensive baseline mapping study for the energy situation of the building sector in Jordan. Members of the task force, which include representatives of relevant public & private stakeholders for the considered branches of activities, will be solicited to help in validating these final results and identifying areas requiring final revisions. The outputs of this mapping exercise shall constitute the basis for the remaining project activities and will help in defining the main axis and players for conducting the energy efficiency actions in the building sector. The meeting will also present for discussion a methodology for periodic surveys of energy consumption patterns in the buildings' sector, based on a series of periodic surveys that the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) has been conducting since 1989. It is proposed that the methodology will be further developed and improved, in the context of the UNDA project, to be adopted, in both Jordan and Tunisia, as a formal approach for monitoring the evolution of energy consumption in the building sector and estimating the impacts of energy efficiency programs in the sector. This national meeting is part of the activities scheduled in the UN Development Account (UNDA) project on “Up-scaling Energy Efficiency in the residential and services sectors in the Arab Region”.
20 May 2015	Compendium of Environment Statistics in the ESCWA Region, 2010-2011	The growing interest in environmental statistics amongst the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) countries has encouraged ESCWA to gather and publish environmental statistics for the region. This publication is the third issue covering environmental statistics with the aim to disseminate, as widely as possible, environmental statistics on ESCWA countries. This publication contains the most relevant environmental issues and concerns in the region.

28 July 2015	Measuring and Monitoring the Living Conditions in Palestine	President of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) Ola Awad today commended the signature of a memorandum of understanding between PCBS and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), at the UN House in Beirut. Awad said “the objective of this agreement between PCBS and ESCWA is the implementation of a survey to assess the impact of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza strip in 2014, and the socioeconomic living conditions of Palestinian households in the West Bank and the Gaza strip.
27 September 2019	Meeting on Strengthening the Implementation of Prevalence Surveys on Violence against Women in the Arab Region	UN ESCWA, UN Women and WHO are jointly organizing this meeting to bring together relevant partners in the Arab region to discuss a way forward in advancing methods and strategies to measure violence against women (VAW) in line with globally agreed methodological and ethical standards, building on the outcomes of the meeting Measuring Sustainable Development Goals on Violence against Women and Time Use Statistics Indicators held in Tangier, Morocco in 2018.
11 December 2014	Launching of the 2012-2013 Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region	On 1 October 2013, ESCWA Chief Economist and Director of the Economic Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) Abdallah Al Dardari held a press conference at the UN House, Beirut, to launch the "Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region 2012-2013". The Survey is an annual report prepared by ESCWA. Also participating in the conference was Lebanese Minister of Economy Nicolas Nahhas.
