11 July 2016	ESCWA and IRU Sign MoU on Transport and Trade Facilitation	On 28 June 2016, ESCWA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in transport and trade-related issues in the Arab region with the International Road Union (IRU). Director of ESCWA Economic Development and Integration Division Mohamed El Hacene represented the Commission in the ceremony, while IRU Secretary General Umberto de Pretto signed on behalf of the Union.
17 November 2017	Expert Group Meeting on Coordinating Responses to Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction in the Arab Region	The Expert Group Meeting, organized by ESCWA in partnership with UNISDR/ROAS aims to discuss linking climate change and disaster risk reduction in order to formulate integrated policies with respect to natural disasters which are being exacerbated by climate change.
20 May 2015	Policies and Measures to Promote Sustainable Use of Energy in the Transport Sector in the ESCWA Region	Statistics reveal that land transport is responsible for more than three quarters of the emissions by the transport sector worldwide. Consequently, this sector is considered to be one of the most important sectors to be focused on with regards to measures aimed at mitigating climate change, which was agreed by regional and international organizations. This study includes a presentation on energy consumption in the transport sector in general and in the ESCWA region in particular, and its implications on the environment and climate change.

24 April 2017	ESCWA Concludes 12th Session of Statistics Committee	On 4 and 5 April ESCWA held the 12th session of its Statistical, at the UN House, Beirut. The meeting launched the first Arabic-language Gender Statistics Toolkit and eLearning module. The opening session of the meeting saw two statements by Director of the ESCWA Statistics Division Juraj Riecan and President of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) Ola Awad, delivered on her behalf by PCBS Director General a.i Muhammad Al Omari.
