Beirut, 04 December 2017 (Communication and Information Unit)—A ceremony will be held on 7 December 2017 at 16:00 at the Adnan Kassar School of Business (AKSB) at the Lebanese Amrican University (LAU) Beirut, Room BB903. This event crowns the United Nations-led 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.
 

The EGM is organized under the strategic framework of UNESCWA on strengthening the capacity of Governments of the Member States on mainstreaming the energy-related SDGs and Paris Agreement into their national development plans.
 The EGM aims to:
1- Assist member countries monitor the development and implementation of sustainable energy efforts at the national level, taking into account the indicators required by the Statistics Committee of the United Nations in order to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all - Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7) - requires significant effort in scaling-up renewable energy and energy efficiency in the Arab region while addressing climate change. The success of this energy transition is largely tied to strengthening the regional cooperation and trade among Arab countries, the development of grid interconnections between countries and the promotion of pan-Arab electricity market which focuses on smart grids and green corridors.

The information society, in which information is processed efficiently, including the production, exchange, adaptation and use of information, is the appropriate environment for achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. However, the move towards the information society constitutes a real challenge to developing countries, particularly in view of the expanding digital divide with developed countries, thus rendering them increasingly vulnerable to reduction in their productive and economic capacities.
