“Thinking digital? Let’s innovate in Arabic!” competition in Egypt |
The door for applying to the digital Arabic content (DAC) competition is now open until 31 March 2014. Within the framework of cooperation between ESCWA and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Egypt represented by the Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (TIEC), the digital Arabic content (DAC) competition in Egypt was launched on 2 March 2014, as part of a workshop to raise awareness on the importance of the DAC industry. |

The success of this energy transition is largely tied to strengthening the regional cooperation and trade among Arab countries, the development of grid interconnections between countries and the promotion of pan-Arab electricity market which focuses on smart grids and green corridors. |

Millions of young people in Arab countries suffer exclusion in many areas. The aspects of this exclusion include rising unemployment, low qualifications, exacerbated illiteracy and the decline of social and political participation. Those conditions impede the progress of young people and reduce the possibility of their integration in society. They also hinder taking advantage of the ‘demographic window’ in the countries of the region and of the varied human potential that youth represents, consequently leading to slowing national and regional development. |

The information society, in which information is processed efficiently, including the production, exchange, adaptation and use of information, is the appropriate environment for achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. However, the move towards the information society constitutes a real challenge to developing countries, particularly in view of the expanding digital divide with developed countries, thus rendering them increasingly vulnerable to reduction in their productive and economic capacities. |

The performance of Arab countries in 2007 was uneven. Some sectors increased their share in the world economy while others saw their share decline. This issue of the Annual Review assesses, through an analysis of economic indicators, the performance of the Arab economies in achieving regional integration and integration into the world economy, with an emphasis on foreign direct investment. The Annual Review also discusses labour migration as one of the regional integration indicators. |
