16 Days of Activism to prevent violence against women |
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign (2016) has been conducted by ESCWA, IWSAW (LAU), ABAAD (Lebanese NGO) and UN-Women Regional Office for Arab States. The overall goal of the campaign is raising public awareness on gender-based violence and especially violence against women, which constitutes a striking phenomenon in the region. The campaign targeted different audiences with a view to reach out all sectors of the public. |

Continuous Cooperation between ESCWA and GOIC |
The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) signed on 20 June a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC). This MoU represents a statement of intent by the parties to work together and outlines the basis, collaboration and joint activities in fields of mutual interest. In the signing ceremony held in Qatar, ESCWA was represented by its Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa, and GOIC by its Acting Secretary-General Loulwa Bint Abdullah Al Musnad. |

UNESCWA Signs Memorandum with Arab ICT Associations |
The Officer-in-Charge of the UNESCWA Information and Communication Technology Division, Mr. Mansour Farah, said that UNESCWA and the Union of Arab Information and Communication Technology Associations (IJMA3) have agreed to launch specific activities aimed at facilitating the dissemination of information and communication technology (ICT) in the region, with special emphasis on job creation and poverty alleviation. |

An Expert Group Meeting on “Development Under Crisis Conditions” opened yesterday that is being hosted by UNESCWA in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Institute at the UN House, Beirut. The meeting, which is taking place from 27 to 28 June 2006, is enhancing development efforts in this often unstable region by bringing together expertise and stakeholders to address the causes and effects of conflict in the region. |
