Compendium of Environment Statistics in the ESCWA Region, 2010-2011 |
The growing interest in environmental statistics amongst the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) countries has encouraged ESCWA to gather and publish environmental statistics for the region. This publication is the third issue covering environmental statistics with the aim to disseminate, as widely as possible, environmental statistics on ESCWA countries. This publication contains the most relevant environmental issues and concerns in the region. |

Food Security and Conflict in the ESCWA Region |
The Section for Emerging and Conflict Related Issues (ECRI) at ESCWA has prepared this study as part of a series of publications aimed at analyzing the socio-economic impact of conflict and its spillover effects in the ESCWA region. The publications include policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the capacity of policymakers in countries experiencing conflict to develop appropriate strategies and programs for the achievement of social and economic development goals in the region. |

ESCWA-Berytech Digital Arabic Content Competition in Lebanon Still Ongoing |
ESCWA and Berytech Technology and Health launched on 19 September the Digital Arabic Content (DAC) Competition in Lebanon for 2013, which is open for participation until 31 October 2013. A workshop was held in Beirut to launch the competition, and raise awareness on the importance of DAC for the Arab region and the opportunities it offers. It was attended by experts from the academic domain, the private sector, interested investors, and aspiring entrepreneurs. |

National Capacities in Science and Technology at Service of SDGs |
Under the auspices of Jordan Minister for Planning and International Cooperation, the ESCWA Technology Centre organized a meeting entitled “National Capacities in Science and Technology at the Service of National Priorities and the Implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goals,” on 26 September in Amman. The meeting was held in cooperation with the Higher Council for Science and Technology, and with the participation of the UN Country Team for SDGs. It was attended by representatives of 53 institutions from the private and public sectors, and the civil society. |

Amman Hosts UN-ESCWA Meeting on International Goods Transport Facilitation |
UN-ESCWA, in cooperation with the Jordanian Ministry of Transport, is holding a national workshop on International Goods Transport Facilitation in Jordan that will take place at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Amman, on 15 November 2006. This meeting is part of the United Nations Development Account project “Capacity-Building through Cooperation in Developing Inter-Regional Land and Land-Cum-Sea Transport Linkages”. The Project is jointly implemented by the five United Nations regional commissions, with UN-ESCWA being the overall coordinator of the project. |
