ESCWA holds three workshops on integrated education in the Sudan |
Beirut-Khartoum, 28 February 2020--From 10 to 13 February, ESCWA held three workshops on integrated education in the Sudan, funded by the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation (AICS). The workshops were conducted in Khartoum and the Red Sea and attended by administrators and high-level officials from the Ministry of Education, as well as data collectors. |

Workshop on Enhancing transboundary water cooperation in the MENA region |
The workshop was jointly organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean (GWP-Med) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), as part of the regional project “Making water cooperation happen in the Mediterranean” (aka the Water Matchmaker Project), with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). |

Taskforce Meeting: “Final results of the mapping of the energy situation of the building sector in Jordan & periodic survey methodology on energy consumption patterns in the sector” {Postponed} |
The objective of this meeting is to present to the national project task force the final results of the comprehensive baseline mapping study for the energy situation of the building sector in Jordan. Members of the task force, which include representatives of relevant public & private stakeholders for the considered branches of activities, will be solicited to help in validating these final results and identifying areas requiring final revisions. The outputs of this mapping exercise shall constitute the basis for the remaining project activities and will help in defining the main axis and players for conducting the energy efficiency actions in the building sector. |

ESCWA succeeds in securing funds to support road safety in Arab States |
Beirut, 3 March 2020--ESCWA provided support to member States in applying for grants from the UN Road Safety Fund, among which Jordan and Tunisia, which secured an amount of 585,000 USD for their national projects. |

Enhancing cooperation on transboundary water resources in the Arab region |
Beirut, 6 March 2020--Water resources in the Arab region are characterized by scarcity and disparate geographic distribution. The demand for water and the competition over water access are ever-increasing, due to many factors including rapid population growth. So is the need for increased cooperation on the management of transboundary water resources. Against this backdrop, ESCWA and partners held two workshops on the subject, in Beirut, from 3 to 5 March. |
