Regional Meeting on Promoting Food and Water Security in the Arab Region |
ESCWA has implemented since 2015 an initiative on promoting food and water security in the Arab region with support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and in partnership with FAO-RNE, the Arab Organization for Agriculture Development (AOAD) and the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD). This initiative was designed to enable policy makers address challenges related to food security and climate change within the framework of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and related Arab strategies and initiatives. |

Civil Society Dialogues: Exploring New Frontiers – Egypt’s Transition |
In light of the sweeping changes in the Arab region, ESCWA has launched a series of civil society dialogues entitled: "Exploring New Frontiers". These dialogues aim to take stock of the transition that Arab countries are going through and discuss the changing role of civil society and the emerging challenges and windows of opportunity. They are also intended to discuss the process of institutionalizing new citizen participation frameworks, and ensuring social cohesion. |

Continuous Cooperation between ESCWA and GOIC |
Beirut, 22 June 2010 (UN Information Service) — The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) signed on 20 June a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC). This MoU represents a statement of intent by the parties to work together and outlines the basis, collaboration and joint activities in fields of mutual interest. In the signing ceremony held in Qatar, ESCWA was represented by its Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa, and GOIC by its Acting Secretary-General Loulwa Bint Abdullah Al Musnad. |

Energy Vulnerability in the Arab Region |
This study seeks to identify sources of the Arab region’s energy vulnerability that prevents member states’ ability to ensure universal access to affordable, reliable and modern energy services for current and future generations. The study also aims to assess strategies to tackle energy vulnerability effectively while providing a perspective on how different groups can contribute. |
