Senior Officials Segment of ESCWA’S 27th Session Kicks Off |
Beirut, 7 May 2012 (ESCWA Communication and Information Unit)— The Senior Official Segment of ESCWA’s 27th Ministerial Session opened today at the U.N. House in Beirut. Speakers at the opening were the Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Mr. Nadim Khoury, the Director of International Cooperation in the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Ms. Zeina Touqan, representing the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which chaired the 26th Session, and the Executive Director of the Economic Policy Affairs in the Emirati Ministry of Economy, Mr. Mohamad Saleh Shalwah. |

Regional Coordination Mechanism for Arab States, 23rd meeting |
The twenty-third RCM meeting comes two years after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, at a time when Arab countries are facing complex and pressing domestic and transboundary regional challenges—such as peace and security, unemployment, environmental stability, youth, water and international migration. Those challenges could, but should not, affect the United Nation’s ability to act as “one” to ensure that the basic human rights, economic and social justice of citizens are protected, a priority for all countries in the region. |

The United Arab Emirates Hosts the “Thinking digital? Let’s innovate in Arabic!” competition |
The digital Arabic content (DAC) competition was launched on 10 April 2014 in the United Arab Emirates within the scope of cooperation between ESCWA and Abu Dhabi University (ADU) and in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The launch was part of a workshop, hosted at the Abu Dhabi Chamber and attended by over 50 participants representing the academic sector, fund agencies, companies involved in DAC development, as well as young entrepreneurs and university students. |

Arab Implementation Meeting Concludes with “Dubai Document” |
Dubai hosted the deliberations on the sustainable development agenda in the Arab region, through the "Regional Arab Implementation Meeting" (RIM), held on 29 and 30 May at the Dubai Police Academy. World Economic Situation and Prospects 2008 |
The United Nations annual economic report, which this year bears the title “World Economic Situation and Prospects 2008”, said that countries of the Western Asian region have maintained their fifth consecutive year of growth of more than 4.5 per cent. The region is benefiting from the revenue effects of resurgent oil prices and the unprecedented world demand. In the outlook, strong regional growth is expected to continue in 2008, at 5.2 per cent, supported by the high global demand and price of oil according to the “World Economic Situation and Prospects 2008”. |
