ESCWA Executive Secretary yesterday discussed bilateral relations with Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Naji Otri, examining ways to strengthen and develop them, namely in areas of rehabilitation and training, and also touching on development and service fields. The meeting was an occasion to give an overview for work ESCWA undertakes, in addition to its contribution to building national technological capacities and using them to the best interest of Arab social and economic development.

The study focuses on the role of digital technologies in sustainable development in the Arab region for 2030 and sets proposals for their use under seven thematic policy areas.

Beirut, 26 August 2019 (ESCWA)--Agriculture in Lebanon absorbs about 11% of the active labour force in the formal and informal sectors and generates 3% of the country’s gross domestic product. The transfer and adaptation of new technologies in the sector are still at an early stage; they require high investments and remain restricted to individual initiatives.

ESCWA gathered today a group of experts, academics, program specialists, government officials, as well as concerned U.N. Entities and other civil society players, to discuss “Barriers Hindering Women’s Economic Participation in the ESCWA Region,” in an expert group meeting at the U.N. House, Beirut.
