The Section for Emerging and Conflict Related Issues (ECRI) at ESCWA has prepared this study as part of a series of publications aimed at analyzing the socio-economic impact of conflict and its spillover effects in the ESCWA region. The publications include policy recommendations aimed at enhancing the capacity of policymakers in countries experiencing conflict to develop appropriate strategies and programs for the achievement of social and economic development goals in the region.

The Expert Group Meeting aims to get the NAFS Syrian and international Programme’s experts and partners involvements in the on-going consultations.

Beirut-Rabat, 13 June 2019 (ESCWA)--United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCWA Rola Dashti said that at the national level, ESCWA supports the Kingdom of Morocco as well as Arab states in adopting integrated approaches to sustainable development through providing them with technical support and building their capacities.

The information society, in which information is processed efficiently, including the production, exchange, adaptation, and use of information, is the appropriate environment for achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. However, the move towards the information society constitutes a real challenge to developing countries, particularly in view of the expanding digital divide with developed countries, thus rendering them increasingly vulnerable to a reduction of their productive and economic capacities.
