Tracking SDG 7: Energy Progress Report Arab Region |
Progress in sustainable energy lies at the heart of socioeconomic growth and sustainable development across the Arab region. Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all (Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7)) is a key condition for reducing inequalities, poverty eradication, advances in health and education, sustainable economic growth, and the principle of “leaving no one behind”, in addition to climate action. Mainstreaming sustainable energy also presents significant opportunities for achieving a greater gender balance in the Arab region, including through improved energy access for women, access to medical services and education, and job opportunities. |

Improving the performance of the Agricultural Development Group for Rural Women "Al-Amal" and raising its efficiency |
Within the framework of the “Regional Initiative for Promoting Small-Scale Renewable Energy Applications in Rural Areas of the Arab Region (REGEND)” Project, the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in partnership with the General Commission for Regional Development (CGDR) and the National Agency for Energy Conservation (ANME) in Tunisia, is organizing a capacity-building workshop on “Improving the performance of the Agricultural Development Group for Rural Women "Al-Amal" in Neffatia and raising its efficiency”. |

Eighth Scientific Agricultural Conference (ESAC-2018) |
ESCWA Technology Center is supporting the Eighth Scientific Agricultural Conference (ESAC-2018) entitled "Agricultural Challenges and Sustainable Development" organized by the Faculty of Agriculture at Mutah University, Karak, Jordan during the period 15-17 October 2018. The ESAC-2018 will be held in collaboration with ESCWA Technology Center (ETC), the Agricultural Faculties at the Jordanian Universities, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Center for Agricultural Research and Extension, and Ministry of Water and Irrigation and FAO. The conference is expected to attract professionals, academics, experts in the fields of agriculture, food, water and environment, and farmers. During the conference, ETC and ICARDA are organizing a dedicated session on “Technology and Innovation for Agricultural Development”. |

Arab Countries Discuss Industrial Statistics and Classifications |
The Qatari capital, Doha, hosted on 30 September - 2 October 2013 a regional workshop on industrial statistics and classifications for the Arab countries. The workshop was jointly organized with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the New York-based United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization (AIDMO). |

Building upon previously published research of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) on the status of Palestinian women and girls, and drawing upon the most recent data available, this report highlights the complex situation of women and girls, revealing both progress and setbacks in the context of the Israeli military occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza. |

New portal to assist small and medium enterprises in the Arab region |
Beirut, 04 September 2019 (ESCWA)-- Arab experts and government officials gathered at the UN House in Beirut today to discuss a web-based platform that ESCWA is designing to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), given their significant role in economic growth. The consultative meeting identified the key functionalities and content of the platform, dubbed SMEs Digital Enablers Portal. |
