The project “Enhancing and Improving Access to Energy Services through Development of PublicPrivate Renewable Energy Partnerships” seeks to build the capacity of governments and other stakeholders of PPPs for promoting renewable energy services in rural areas. Different types of PPPs will be examined evaluated in different regions/areas based on economic and social conditions. The project aims to focus on countries with special needs, taking into account experiences from different regions.

This Policy Brief analyses SDGs 1 & 2 on ending poverty and hunger from a gender perspective, and proposes an adaptation of these Goals to the Arab context.

This booklet represents the main outcome of the project "Toward more gender-responsive Millennium Development Goal (MDG) monitoring and reporting in the Arab region" that was implemented by the ESCWA in cooperation with United Nations agencies in the Arab region. The project aimed at forging a common understanding among stakeholders on ways to engender quantitative monitoring and reporting on the MDGs, particularly the identification of priority regional gender issues and the development of gender-sensitive measurements in Arab countries.

During 2013, the Commission celebrated its 40th Anniversary and reiterated its commitment to member states and the overall prosperity of the Arab Region. Following a three pronged approach, the Commission sought in 2013 to assist member states in achieving economic and social integration, face the current challenges of transition through strengthened institutions, participation and enhanced capacities, and deliver equitable and sustainable growth for all.
