Illicit financial flows (IFFs) are constantly evolving outpacing detection at every corner. IFFs undermine the rule of law, distort macro-economic stability, and raise severe security complications for the Arab region. These flows constitute substantial leakages to domestic public revenues that could have otherwise been harnessed to finance national and regional efforts devoted to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. |

While international debate continues regarding the development of primary biofuels, second-generation biofuels derived from agricultural waste have emerged as an environmentally sound alternative for policymakers and entrepreneurs interested in biofuel development, including in the ESCWA region. Advocates indicate that developments in this sector can also help to address the environmental problems of the region, as well as to create new employment and income opportunities through the introduction of environmentally sound technologies. |

Examining multidimensional inequality in the Arab region through a capabilities lens: Presenting a pilot study in Lebanon with a focus on SDG 10 |
This study proposes an innovative research approach to capture multidimensional inequalities that remain to be addressed in SDG-10 targets and the 2030 Agenda in general. As a result of original fieldwork, the study examines the underlying inequalities experienced by three groups in Lebanon – persons with disabilities, educated youth and vulnerable women – and, through the use of radial diagrams, provides a stark visual representation of the gaps that remain to be narrowed between where people are with their lives and where they want to be. |
