ICT at the Service of Education, Healthcare and Agriculture |
On 31 May and 1 June 2016, Amman hosted “The 3rd International Workshop on Applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education, Healthcare and Agriculture”, which was held at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), the largest applied research institution Jordan. The Workshop was jointly organized by ESCWA, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Inter-Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT), in cooperation with RSS. |

UN Backs Sustainable Tourism in South Lebanon |
Beirut, 29 March 2012 (UN Information Service) — The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), and the Union of Tyre Region Municipalities held today a workshop in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre to raise awareness about responsible eco-tourism in the framework of green economy and sustainable development. Participants included representatives from different municipalities and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in southern Lebanon. |

ESCWA is organizing a regional workshop on Arabic Domain Names and Internet Governance on 14 November 2009 at the Savoy Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The meeting tackles important topics related to the Arabic domain names in general and the “.arab” top-level domain, which will be established in 2010, in addition to issues associated with critical Internet resources and cyber security. |

A Push to the Green End |
Within the context of the ESCWA-lead project on "Strengthening National Capacities in the ESCWA Region on Developing Green Production Sectors", which officially kicked off in April 2012, three Green Help Desks (GHDs) have been established and are currently operational in Oman (September 2012), Lebanon (June 2013), and Jordan (August 2013). The GHDs are respectively hosted by the Omani Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI), and the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) in Jordan.
