Beirut, 25 November 2011 (United Nations Information Service) — The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) held the Inter-Regional Seminar on Participatory Development and Conflict Resolution: Path of Democratic Transition and Social Justice on 23-24 November at the UN House in Beirut. Participants included leading field actors, political activists, experts, representatives of governments, civil society organizations, research centers, academic institutions, media, UN agencies, regional and international organizations.

On 10 September 2014, ESCWA launched from its Beirut headquarters a report entitled "The conflict in the Syrian Arab Republic: The impact at the Macroeconomic Level and the Obstacles on the Way to the Millennium Development Goals." A host of Arab and foreign diplomats and experts took part in the event. Also participating was the Editor-in-Chief of As Safir newspaper Talal Salman who delivered a keynote address.

Every year, the partners of ESCWA from governmental and non-governmental organizations, media, educational and scientific foundations await the launch of the “Survey of Economic and Social Developments in the Arab Region”. It is a report intended to assess the Arab economies in the global context of economic events that took place recently and also to address pressing policy agenda in the region by a theme-based in-depth research.

Beirut, 30 September 2019 (ESCWA)--The role of translation in dialogue and peacebuilding has been firmly cemented through the ages, across time and space. The General Assembly of the United Nations has reaffirmed this notion by inextricably linking  the role of translators and other language professionals to the Organization’s multidisciplinary global mandate.
