The session, which was moderated by Moncef Ben Abdallah, Senior Energy Expert, and former Tunisian Industry and Energy Minister, tackled the impact of sustainable energy transition on youth unemployment and job creation opportunities; the impact of Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) deployment; and the role of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in this matter. |

Launching the Information Economy Report 2013 From UN House in Beirut |
In a seminar held at the UN House, Beirut, ESCWA launched the Information Economy Report 2013 on 2 December, in the presence of experts in the fields of economic issues and information and communication technologies. Chief of the ICT Applications Section at the Information and Communications Division in ESCWA (ICTD) Nibal Idlebi briefly presented the report, while Associate Economic Affairs Officer at UNCTAD Marie Sicat detailed its global findings and while ICTD Information Technology Officer Rami Zaatari delivered a presentation on the regional aspects of the report. |

ESCWA Participates in First LAU - UN Day |
ESCWA participated in a UN Day organized by the UN Information Center (UNIC Beirut) and the Lebanese American University (LAU) at the latter's Beirut campus 27 April in which 17 UN agencies and programs participated. A ceremony launching the event was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, media representatives, UN officials as well as faculty members, students and alumni of LAU. |

UN-ESCWA Technical Committee Holds its First Meeting |
The first meeting of the UN-ESCWA Technical Committee, established pursuant to the decision of UN-ESCWA at its twenty-fourth ministerial session in 2006, opened today. The aim of the meeting, which extends until tomorrow, 17 January 2008, is to discuss preparations for the UN-ESCWA twenty-fifth ministerial session, in addition to ongoing preparations for the strategic framework for the biennium 2010-2011: suggested vision and priorities. |

Minister of Public Works and Transport to Open UNESCWA 7th Transport Committee Meeting |
The Seventh Session of UNESCWA Committee on Transport will convene at the UN House, Beirut, on Monday 17 April 2006 at 10:00 a.m. under the auspices of Lebanese Minister of Public Works and Transport Mohammed Safadi. The meeting will continue until 19 April and discuss major issues that concern the transport sector due to its importance and its direct impact on the economies of the countries in the region. |
