UN Launches Millennium Development Goals Report 2011 Western Asia Betters Maternal, Children Survival and Health |
Beirut, 7 July 2011 (United Nations Information Service) – A United Nations report released today on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) showed that Western Asia made good progress in improving the survival and health of mothers and children, as maternal deaths declined by 52 percent between 1990 and 2008 largely due to increases in skilled attendance at birth, skilled antenatal care and contraceptive use, as well as a drop in adolescent childbearing. |

UN-ESCWA Committee on Water Resources Convenes Eighth Session |
In the presence of representatives of member countries, international, regional and civil organizations, as well as experts concerned with water resources, UN-ESCWA opened today the eighth session of its Committee on Water Resources, which convenes until Friday 19 December 2008. Arab Business Community and the WTO Agreements |
UN-ESCWA opened on 2 July the "Third Forum on Arab Business Community and the WTO Agreements", in Adnan Kassar Edifice for Arab Economy, Beirut. The event is held in collaboration with the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries, and the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Short Term Statistics in Western Asia |

Illicit Financial Flows Hamper Sustainable Development Financing |
ESCWA held on 8 and 9 May 2017 at the UN House in Beirut an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) to conjure a common scope, definition, working parameters and methodology to qualify and quantify Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs) and trade misinvoicing since, to date, there is no multilaterally agreed upon definition of IFFs or an agreed-on methodology for their measurement. |

Regional commission marks World Water Day, says millions of Arabs still lack basic water services |
Beirut, 22 March 2019 (ESCWA)--While 51 million people from the Arab region still lacked basic water drinking services, 73% of whom lived in rural areas. This is among the conclusions of the new version of ‘2019 United Nations World Water Development Report” (WWDR 2019) launched today at the regional level by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) as it marked World Water Day in its Beirut headquarters. |
