11 December 2014	ESCWA Chief Economist Launches World Economic Situation and Prospects 2013, Reiterates Commission's Call to Achieve Regional Integration	Abdallah AlDardari, Director, ESCWA Economic Development and Globalization Division and Chief Economist, today said Economic situation of the Arab region can be characterized by its polarizing economic performance between major energy exporters and other Arab countries. Major energy exporters, mainly of GCC countries, have registered a stable growth with constantly growing domestic demand through active fiscal policy. On the other hand, political instability and social unrest clouded economic situation of other Arab countries, namely Mashreq, Maghreb and Arab Least Developed Countries.
22 April 2016	International Mother Earth Day	On 22 April of every year the world marks the International Mother Earth Day. This year’s theme is “Trees for the Earth”. Earth Day aims to refocus the world’s attention on the need to protect the environment in order to keep it healthy for current and future generations. This year’s Earth Day coincides with the signing ceremony of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which came on the heels of last year’s agreement on the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda with its high focus on protecting the environment and the earth as well.

16 November 2016	Regional Commission and UN-Women Join Hands to Discuss Regional Accountability Tool for Achieving Gender Equality in National Institutions	Government representatives and officials from the National Women Machineries (NWMs) in the Member States of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) today adopted a unified Arab framework to measure accountability and progress towards achieving gender equality in public institutions. The framework will be tested later at the levels of both the NWMs and governmental institutions.
11 December 2014	First Arab States Regional South-South Development EXPO	The first Arab States Regional South-South Development Expo was held on 18 to 20 February 2014, hosted by the State of Qatar and co-organized by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation and the United Nations Development Programme Regional Bureau for Arab States. The Expo bore the motto “Solutions to Action”. The main objective of the Expo was to serve as a platform for matching capacities of the solution providers with the needs of the solution seekers, which will potentially lead to practical exchanges of South-South solutions and experiences in the region.

11 December 2014	ESCWA Executive Secretary Meets with Moroccan Minister Delegate for Public Affairs and Governance	Within the framework of her visit to the Kingdom of Morocco to participate in the Second High-Level Meeting on Transition to Democracy organized by ESCWA in the City of Rabat on 5-6 February 2013, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf met yesterday, Monday, Moroccan Minister Delegate for Public Affairs and Governance Mohammad Boulif. The visit intended to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and ESCWA.
