ESCWA: The Arab region faces two scenarios for 2021 |
Beirut, 29 December 2020--The Arab region faces two economic scenarios for 2021: an optimistic one projecting a growth rate of 3.5% and one that is less optimistic, limiting growth prospects to 2.8%. The actual path will hinge on the ability of Arab countries to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused losses of about $140 billion for the region, resulting in an estimated -3% growth contraction in 2020. |

ESCWA Celebrates 1st World Statistics Day under Auspices of Lebanese PM Hariri |
Beirut, 15 October 2010 (UN Information Service)— ESCWA celebrated the first World Statistics Day at the UN House in Beirut, under the auspices of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad El Hariri who was represented by State Minister Jean Ogasapian, and in the presence of many diplomats, officials and statistics users. “We have assembled today to give honour to statistics, to a profession that accompanies each of us throughout the life,” the head of ESCWA Statistics Division Juraj Riecan said. |

UN-ESCWA and Italy partner to support empowerment of women refugees from Syria |
