“The more we succeed in empowering Arab women, the greater is our progress towards sustainable human development” With these words, ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader AlDafa summed up the vision that guides the Commission in its women-centered programs and activities, which have recently grown to include a TV program, entitled “Women in Economy”. Executive Secretary Visits Oman, Participates in G77 Water Forum |
UN-ESCWA Executive Secretary Bader Omar AlDafa considered today that the Regional Commission region suffers from a variety of pressures that endanger the sustainability of its water resources. UN-ESCWA has therefore set the management of water resources at the top of its work priority and works to implement several projects to strengthen the good and sustainable management of these resources. AlDafa made these remarks in the first session of the Ministerial Forum on Water that the G77 and China are holding in Oman on 23-25 February 2009.

During a meeting held by the World Bank in Washington D.C. in May 2015, ESCWA delivered a briefing on the methodology and challenges hindered the implementation of the project of producing Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) estimates for the years 2012 and 2013 based on the experiences gained during the 2011 International Comparison Program (ICP) Round. |

ESCWA and the League of Arab States hold a conference on disability in the Arab region |
This year marks the 21st commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Over one billion people - or approximately 15 percent of the world population - live with disability. In the Arab region, significant strides have been made over recent years to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities. Despite these efforts however, persons with disabilities in Arab countries continue to face substantial barriers in accessing health care, education and employment. |

The conference was organized by the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at LAU and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with the Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KVINFO) from 8 to 10 August 2016 in Beirut. |
