Beirut, 23 October 2017 (Communication and Information Unit)-- A delegation of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), chaired by its Deputy Executive Secretary for Program Support Khawla Mattar, today started an official visit to Iraq. The visit continues until Wednesday 25 October 2017.

A crowd of Arab ministers and experts have agreed on the importance of ESCWA continuing to increase its technical support to Member States to implement the social dimension of the 2030 Agenda based on the approaches developed to serve the complementary nature of the Agenda. It was also agreed to implement training workshops for Member States on the use of the handbook prepared by the Secretariat of ESCWA to integrate the principles of social justice into policy-making, including social protection policies.

33 experts from 17 Arab, African and Asian countries discussed various issues related to Islamic Finance and exchanged their expertise in this field in a meeting that was held by ESCWA in coordination with the United Nations Statistics Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNSD) at the UN House in Beirut from 24 to 26 October 2017.
8 experts representing international organizations also took part in the meeting.

Beirut, 9 November (Communication and Information Unit)-- The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the Center for Civic Engagement and Community Service at the American University of Beirut (AUB) are joining hands to offer undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in international affairs the opportunity to take part in a unique simulation of multilateral diplomacy.
