26 July 2016	ESCWA Assistance for the Jordanian National Statistical Strategy	ESCWA, through an advisory mission, is taking part this week in reviewing the National Statistical Strategy of Jordan, in response to a request by the Department of Statistics (DOS) and in cooperation with the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (Paris 21).

2 August 2016	Khawla Mattar of Bahrain Appointed as Deputy Executive Secretary of ESCWA	United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Ms. Rima Khalaf today announced the appointment of Ms. Khawla Mattar (The Kingdom of Bahrain) as Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support. Ms. Mattar is bringing with her a vast working experience in development and political offices of the UN. She has also worked closely on issues of gender; equality; human rights; migrant workers; rights at work for all and children’s rights.
5 August 2016	LAU and ESCWA Prioritize Women, Peace and Security on the Arab Agenda	The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at the Lebanese American University (LAU), in collaboration with The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and The Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KVINFO), is organizing an international conference entitled “Towards Prioritising Women, Peace, and Security on the Arab Agenda”, on 8-10 August 2016.
8 August 2016	Prioritizing Women, Peace and Security on the Arab Agenda Conference Kicks Off	“Towards Prioritizing Women, Peace, and Security on the Arab Agenda” is the title of the international conference, which kicked off today at the Lebanese American University (LAU). The conference is organized by the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at LAU, in collaboration with The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and The Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KVINFO).

11 August 2016	LAU and ESCWA Conference on Women, Peace and Security Concludes, Launches Beirut Call for Action	The international conference on “Prioritizing Women, Peace and Security on the Arab Agenda" concluded by launching the *Beirut Call for Action.* The conference was organized by the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at LAU and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with the Danish Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KVINFO) from 8 to 10 August 2016 in Beirut.
17 August 2016	First Model ESCWA Session in Partnership with AUB Centre for Civic Engagement and Community Service	ESCWA held a training program on Wednesday and Thursday 10 and 11 August 2016 at the American University of Beirut (AUB), as part of the overall training given to a group of the university students who will participate in Model ESCWA later this fall. The training and initiative are being held in partnership with the AUB Centre for Civic Engagement and Community Service
17 August 2016	Gender Equality in the Sustainable Development Agenda (2030) on the Agenda of ESCWA, LAS and UN Women	The Deputy Director of the ESCWA Centre for Women, Ms. Mehrinaz El-Awady, today said that the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development may form a turning point in development policies in the world, underlining a shift in the philosophy of development from specific development policies linked to narrow thematic frameworks to more inclusive policies that require action in different fields.
20 August 2016	لا سلام في ظل استمرار إفلات إسرائيل من العقاب على انتهاكاتها	أطلقت لجنة الأمم المتحدة الاقتصادية والاجتماعية لغربي آسيا (الإسكوا) على موقعها الإلكتروني مذكرة الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة التي تعدّها سنوياً حول الانعكاسات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية للاحتلال الإسرائيلي على الأحوال المعيشية للشعب الفلسطيني في الأرض الفلسطينية المحتلة، بما فيها القدس الشرقية وللسكان العرب في الجولان السوري المحتل.
