The United Nations Democracy Fund invites civil society organizations to apply for funding for projects to advance and support democracy. Project proposals may be submitted on-line between 15 November 2011 and 31 December 2011 at www.un.org/democracyfund.

ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim visited on 29 August 2017 Lebanese Minister of State for Planning, Michel Pharaon, at the top of a delegation comprising his Special Assistant Mohanad Al-Musawi, Chief of Economic Development and Poverty Section Khaled Abu-Ismail and Chief of Economic Governance and Planning Ahmed Kamaly.

During the meeting, Pharaon stressed the importance of the presence of ESCWA in Beirut and its role at the service of the governments of the region.  

          ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim took his oath of office before United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday 12 July 2017 at the UN Headquarters, New York, after he assumed his duties at the peak of ESCWA last May.
 
          Alhakim promised not to seek or accept any instructions regarding the performance of his duties as Executive Secretary from any government or other source external to the UN. He said:
 

UN-ESCWA is inviting applications for a call for proposals on Promoting Renewable Energy (RE) Investments in the Context of Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainable Development. All institutions, civil societies and the private sector of member countries are invited to submit their proposals by 1 March 2016, to be included in the ESCWA RE investment projects pipeline. At least 10 projects will be retained as part of a capacity building project the Commission is implementing, which aims at enhancing RE investments in member countries in the context of climate change mitigation.
