The International Comparison Program (ICP) Regional Office, which is a part of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Statistics Division, has launched a periodic newsletter as a forum to exchange information and experiences, and making users of statistics aware of the ICP. This newsletter aims at highlighting ICP activities and expectations for the end of the 2011 ICP round.

Renowned Lebanese singer Majida El-Roumy will pay a visit to ESCWA Headquarters, Riad el Solh Square, on Thursday 6 December 2012. Roumi begins her visit at 11:00 AM with an audience with UN Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf. A tour of the Commission’s premises follows, with a stop in the library, where Ms. El-Roumy will be briefed on work mechanisms and subjects of interest. The tour wraps up with a detailed presentation on ESCWA’s work and programs, with special emphasis on the Commission’s role in youth poverty alleviation in Lebanon and the region.

UN Under-Secretary-General and ESCWA Executive Secretary Mohamed Ali Alhakim received the Ambassador of Egypt to Lebanon Nazih El Naggary, on 26 May 2017 at the UN House, Beirut.

Following the meeting, Ambassador El Naggary told the ESCWA Communication and Information Unit (ECIU): “it was a courtesy call, and an occasion to congratulate the Executive Secretary on his assignment as head of ESCWA.”

UNESCWA, in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Institute, is hosting an Expert Group Meeting on “Development Under Crisis Conditions” on 27 and 28 June 2006 at the UN House, Beirut. By bringing together a wide range of expertise, including regional stakeholders and an abundance of homegrown knowledge, the meeting aims to enhance development policies and projects amidst an unstable and volatile environment.
