Beirut, 23 October 2017 (Communication and Information Unit)-- A delegation of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), chaired by its Deputy Executive Secretary for Program Support Khawla Mattar, today started an official visit to Iraq. The visit continues until Wednesday 25 October 2017.

The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 (WESP) Report discusses economic growth in many countries in Western Asia over the next two years and the repercussions of decreasing oil prices and ongoing conflicts. It also lays out the situation in Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen, notably concerning rising government debt which has started pressuring fiscal balances due to higher interest payments.

Beirut-Khartoum, 28 February 2020--From 10 to 13 February, ESCWA held three workshops on integrated education in the Sudan, funded by the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation (AICS). The workshops were conducted in Khartoum and the Red Sea and attended by administrators and high-level officials from the Ministry of Education, as well as data collectors.
 

Beirut, 23 July 2010 (UN Information Service) — The Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) is holding a Regional Workshop for Arab Parliaments on implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and ending violence against them, at the UN House in Beirut from 27 to 29 July.
