The World Economic Situation and Prospects 2015 (WESP) Report discusses economic growth in many countries in Western Asia over the next two years and the repercussions of decreasing oil prices and ongoing conflicts. It also lays out the situation in Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen, notably concerning rising government debt which has started pressuring fiscal balances due to higher interest payments.
The report will be launched at 11:00 AM on Monday 19 January 2015, at the UN House, Beirut, by ESCWA Deputy Executive Secretary Abdallah Al Dardari, and the newly-appointed Director of the ESCWA Economic and Globalization Division Mohamed El Moctar Mohamed El Hacene.
The report also discusses the global economic outlook; international trade; international finance for sustainable development; and regional developments and outlook.
WESP is produced at the beginning of each year by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the five UN regional commissions and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
