Strengthening measurement of violence against women in the Arab region |
Beirut-Cairo, 18 October 2019 (ESCWA)--In many Arab countries, there is still a lack of data on the prevalence of violence against women. To remedy this, ESCWA and partners gathered to discuss means to measure violence against women in line with globally agreed methodological and ethical standards. |

Executive Secretary Mervat Tallawy stressed that not once did UNESCWA stop its work in the service of Lebanon and other member countries, even during the war. She said this during a teleconference today with the United Nations Information Service at UNESCWA which focused on following-up the media work programme at the Commission. |

UNESCWA is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) tomorrow with the Safadi Foundation and the Professional Computer Association of Lebanon (PCA) to initiate collaboration in developing and implementing specific activities aimed at supporting the current Multipurpose Technology Community Centres (MTCC) in Akkar, North Lebanon. |

ESCWA Staff Commemorate Late Colleague |
On 8 February 2013, ESCWA staff members had a grim date with the memorial ceremony for one of their finest colleagues, the Safety and Security Section’s Seargant Haytham Tohmeh, who laid down the arms in his battle with illness before January closed its curtains. Staff members of the Commission came together for a memorial service to remember their colleague as he was, a dedicated professional who embodied the ideals of the international organization since 1 August 2004, the day he officially became a United Nations employee. |

Lebanese Prime Minister opens the 14th Regional Coordination Mechanism |
Beirut, 09 November 2010 (UN Information Service) — Lebanese Prime Minister Saad El Hariri will open the 14th Regional Coordination Mechanism (RCM) meeting for all UN agencies operating in the Arab region. The meeting, organized by ESCWA, will be held on Thursday 11 November at 9:00 am at the UN House in Beirut. In addition to El Hariri, the UN Deputy Secretary General Asha-Rose Migiro and ESCWA Executive Secretary Rima Khalaf will deliver statements at the opening session. |

ICT at the Service of Education, Healthcare and Agriculture |
On 31 May and 1 June 2016, Amman hosted “The 3rd International Workshop on Applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education, Healthcare and Agriculture”, which was held at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), the largest applied research institution Jordan. The Workshop was jointly organized by ESCWA, the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Inter-Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT), in cooperation with RSS. |
